Frank Shiner

Frank Shiner is an American singer and actor. Two songs from his album ''The Real Me'' reached the top five of ''FMQB''s Adult Contemporary chart. Shiner, a native of Pennsylvania, began work in acting and music with roles in Shakespearean and contemporary theater productions and in television series. He worked in sales later in his career for another source of income and returned to singing in 2012. His first album concerns the theme of "getting back to who you are", as Shiner has described his return to singing. He has since played "The Real Me Live Show" at venues in New York and released his album in 2014.
==Early life and career==

Shiner began working at ten years old with his father in the family's bakery in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.〔 Shiner graduated from King's College in Wilkes-Barre in 1982 with a BFA in Theater. From there, he moved to New York City and pursued a career in singing and acting. For a time he used the professional name Matthew Shiner on the advice of an agent who believed "Frank" was too "ethnic," but later used the professional name "Frank Shiner" anyway. He toured with musicals, including ''Get any Guy Through Psychic Mind Control or Your Money Back'', staged in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1991. His acting career included modern works as well as several Shakespeare plays, including ''Richard II'' (through the Riverside Shakespeare Company), ''Henry VIII'', ''Richard III'', ''Taming of the Shrew'', and ''Macbeth''. He also worked as a television actor, his largest roles having been in soap operas ''One Life to Live'', ''Guiding Light'', and ''All My Children''.〔 Upon the birth of his second son, Shiner became a sales agent for a more secure source of income. He went on to found his own company in Valhalla, New York, a payment and management service company.〔
Shiner's return to singing after 15 years happened during a night out with his wife at a local restaurant. Shiner participated in an "open mic" jazz night with live music. At the time, his wife was recently diagnosed with cancer and was struggling with chemotherapy; she strongly urged him to sing at the restaurant that night and to continue his musical career.〔 Later that evening, Shiner was offered a job singing with the band that was playing that night, the Tony T Orchestra. Shiner took up playing for that group at multiple venues.〔
He released his first album, ''The Real Me'' in 2014,〔 produced by Gary Katz.〔 The album and eponymous song (a cover of a Doc Pomus song) were partially chosen as the name of the album in order to represent Shiner's re-entry into the music industry.〔 Its twelve songs includes Shiner's first single, "Feels Like Home", and the song "The Real Me", both of which were in the top five of ''FMQB''s Adult Contemporary chart.〔〔 He thus became one of two artists that year to have consecutive top five singles.〔 Shiner has said that the album's songs are "stories mixed with music", and that "they have an overall message of getting back to who you are and finding yourself at any age." The album's tracks are by artists such as Elvis Costello, Paul Simon and Van Morrison.〔 It won two LA Music Critic awards for the first half of 2014, "best single" and "best CD male".〔
Shiner has played "The Real Me Live Show" several times at New York music hall and restaurant The Cutting Room,〔〔 and the Broadway club Feinstein's/54 Below.〔〔 His interviews include a June 2014 interview for the Northeastern Pennsylvania NPR station WVIA-FM〔 and a November 2014 interview by Joe Franklin for Bloomberg Radio.〔
